About the Site: This is a personal hobby blog that predominantly looks at the substance behind the hype and combines modern Western approaches to health, with ancient Eastern philosophies about wellness and mindfulness. As a mixed race author, this blog is a manifestation of my cultural heritage and its superficially contradictory interests: the latest in scientific knowledge combined with a fascination in the pre-existing, intuitive wisdom of a long forgotten past. It provides nutritious bites of information that may help readers make more informed decisions about their lifestyles, or simply serve as an otherwise entertaining, light read.
People have given their health to their doctor, their money to their banker, their soul to the preacher, their children to the education system and in doing so, have lost control over their own lives.
This site is not monetised through any paid blog content. My main motivations for researching and sharing have always been to further educate myself about the food I eat, the products I use, the places I visit and the activities I love.
One of my favourite mottos is ‘yesterday I was clever and I wanted to change the world, today I am wise and I want to change myself’. In an age of contradictions: such as the mass hysteria and outrage that’s supposedly under an agenda of political correctness and tolerance, or the instant access to knowledge with real depth often limited by information overload and scarcity of time; critically appraising our every move, thought and motive has never been more eye opening. What applies to the macro, starts with the micro and although I may occasionally allow myself to seek solace in that which feels good, I try never to blindly subscribe to a bias that encourages one not to question or experience the grey area of the ‘truth’ for themselves.
Do not shun any healing possibility simply out of an ignorant following of current popular opinion. Nor is it wise to follow any ‘magic cure’ our of faith, wishful thinking or new age glamour. Educate yourself. Learn how your body works. – Josephine McCarthy
As someone who grew up being fed the fast-paced London lifestyle, I enjoy investigating methods of becoming more mindful and balanced in an increasingly manic world. The writing (typing) skills are a continuous work in progress and only reflect my ever-evolving views at the time of writing. About me: My name is Nia and I’m a born and bred Londoner but ethnically half Welsh and South Korean. I studied Medical Science with Gastroenterology and Hepatology (gut and liver health) at Imperial College London and also retain an interest in areas such as mental health and PCOS. I love learning and being creative – pursuing writing, reading, photography, pilates, yoga, talks, workshops and dancing (badly). Having written for Timeout London as a Tastemaker and worked briefly with Dojo App as a contributor, I am always looking for new things to experience and share.
I worked as a Junior Editor for Doctify App and have also written for Beauty By The Geeks, an evidence-based blog that reviews the top beauty products on the market and gives you factual advice when it comes to getting bang for your buck. I highly recommend the BBTG site as everyone’s go-to-guide when it comes to bathroom essentials: how often have you spent precious pennies on a promising new product, only to find out that its not nearly as effective as its marketing campaign?

Often I don’t even know how I feel about a thing until I write about it. Sometimes my typing fingers are smarter than the thoughts in my head. So I pay attention to what I write.
