Maslow’s Members Clubs: Wellbeing That Works

Maslow’s Members Clubs: Wellbeing That Works
Inspired by Abraham Maslow’s theory of human motivation and happiness, Maslow’s Membership Houses support brands, entrepreneurs, and creatives in the pursuit of better balance and wellbeing. At both 1 Warwick and Mortimer House, their team reflects the Maslow’s ethos: “work well, live well, be well.”

London is home to the history of Private Members Clubs; beginning in the Capital in the 17th century, the concept was originally reserved for wealthy, high-society men, with much of Pall Mall’s “Clubland” exclusively catering to politicians and diplomats. Coffee Houses were male retreats where gentlemen could eat, drink, socialise or debate contemporary issues, and many of these essential traits have persisted. Thankfully, the notion of the “old boys club” has somewhat evolved since then, expanding to include a more diverse range of people and industries, especially those whose communities tend to flourish in times of political and social upheaval.

Maslow’s Membership Houses (1 Warwick and Mortimer House) are uniquely centred around work-life balance and holistic approaches to wellness. Based in the heart of London, they strive to create calm, respectful, inclusive and enjoyable co-working spaces complete with access to lounges, restaurants, events programmes, and health and fitness facilities. The perception of London as a place lacking in social openness and cohesion is effectively challenged in spaces like this, where you’ll meet curious individuals from all kinds of backgrounds and expertise. The USP of Maslow’s is that it courts a range of businesses, brands and lifestyles; whether that’s creative, tech, finance or anything in-between – with each industry sharing in the core ideal of living “well”.

Work Well

Mortimer House opened in Fitzrovia, in 2017. Set in a 7 storey Art Deco building, it’s bright spaces have a light-hearted feel – the kind of traditional business meets millennial innovation where it’s socially acceptable, if not encouraged, to grab brunch-time Bloody Mary’s in-between pilates and remote work sessions. And why not? Far removed from the uncomfortably stuffy atmosphere of London’s most traditional clubs, where binary black-tie dress codes are an obligation from dawn to dusk, Maslow’s Houses have “self-actualised” into a colourful celebration of self-motivation, which stems from showing up with unshakable sense of self.

Similarly 1 Warwick, which has been located on a scintillating corner of Soho since 2023, is a hub of connectivity, creativity and heartfelt hospitality. With every element of their carefully crafted spaces designed to feel like home, it’s akin to having your own luxury apartment in one of the most vibrant entertainment districts of London. From boardrooms and brand launches, to PR breakfasts and private drinks receptions, you can comfortably curate your vision within this dynamic team. Fully furnished and intuitively designed to suit all rungs of the hierarchy of needs, each room is equipped with state of the art tech, alongside a suite of support services and characteristically chic finishing touches; fully embodying the spirit of working smarter.

Live Well

Mortimer House Kitchen’s all-day menus feature nostalgic Italian food and drinks, and an equally tempting line-up of culinary delights is on offer throughout 1 Warwick; Both are overseen by executive chef Tom Cenci. Yasmin, is 1 Warwick’s rooftop restaurant and terrace which serves up a Middle Eastern menu; while Nessa, is the neighbourhood bistro located on the ground floor, putting a playful spin on British classics. The Club Menu is also available across the Houses’ social and workspaces, with room service ensuring that members need never hustle while hangry.

From functional fuel to post-work socials, Tom Cenci upholds the values of the spaces through his pure love of food alongside an affection for the collaborative nature of the kitchen. Having earned his place as one of London’s most prominent chefs, he pushes culinary boundaries with eclectic and exciting menus that reflect a raw passion for his craft. With his vocation taking him to Paris, Istanbul, and Canada, Tom has faced the demands of every new environment and challenge head-on, winning a series of awards along the way. On top of this, he still finds time to be an ambassador for Beder – a charity taking unique approaches to softly raising awareness around mental health and suicide prevention, through engaging events and initiatives.

Be Well

Allowing you to roll all your monthly workshop, fitness and co-working subscriptions into one tidy package, both Mortimer House and 1 Warwick offer fully equipped gyms and studios so that members can nourish body, mind and soul with a healthy dose of natural endorphins. A preventive prescription of classes including Yoga, Pilates and TRX can also be booked alongside private training sessions.

Arguably better than therapy, one of the highlights of Maslow’s is the in-house cultural events programme. Every month a roster of psycho-social masterclasses is open to the community, such as: Talks from inspirational figures like Lena Alfi – CEO of the Malala Fund working to ensure that more women have access to free, safe and quality education; Fun “coffee cupping” workshops from brands like Origin Coffee Roasters; Sound bathing sessions inspired by ancient Korean rituals designed to promote deep release and relaxation (the healing properties of “ban-shin-yok”); Regular members breakfasts and socials; Entrepreneurial workshops; And complimentary massages, happy hours or seasonal festivities.

Many of Maslow’s work and leadership programmes are centred around emotional connection, communication and purpose; including conversations with entrepreneurs like Elizabeth Uviebinené (founder of Storia) and Lynn Anderson Clark (founder of The Know), as well as regular collaborations with the popular education platform The School Of Life. Founded on the philosophy of Alain De Botton, these workshops cover topics like navigating difficult conversations with courage and compassion, or unlocking a more fulfilling career through an Ikigai of service, love, and learning.

Living up to their promise to help you invest in your “self”, Maslow’s lack of hierarchy provides a warm, creative and supportive environment equipped with all the practices, people and pleasures you could need, to effectively turn your inner voice into a sustainable inner drive.
